Management of users in the future

Managing users in the future will require the use of new technologies and approaches. For example, organizations must develop and implement data privacy policies and procedures that comply with applicable laws and regulations.

Additionally, organizations should employ robust authentication and authorization methods such as multi-factor authentication, single sign-on (SSO), and biometric authentication in order to ensure users’ data is secure. As technology advances, organizations will need to implement technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to help streamline user management processes.

Finally, organizations will need to develop comprehensive user training and support programs to ensure users are properly informed about the organization’s policies and procedures, as well as any new technologies or changes that may be implemented. Profiles will still exist; however, permissions on profiles will EOL and permissions will be available only on permission sets.

How Long a Profile Will Remain Active

The length of time a profile will remain active in Salesforce depends on the settings for password lifetime and password expiration. The password lifetime setting determines how long a user can keep the same password before they must change it, and the password expiration setting determines how long after the password lifetime has expired before the user is required to change their password.

The default settings for these settings are 90 days for the password lifetime and 30 days for the password expiration. When the password lifetime has expired, the user must change their password within the specified amount of time or their profile will be deactivated.

Permission sets after EOL will be the only means of accessing these features

After the End of Life (EOL) date for permissions on profiles, permission sets will be the only means of accessing these features in Salesforce. Permission sets provide a more flexible and granular approach to managing access to Salesforce objects and fields. They can also be more easily shared and modified, allowing for easier customization of user access. Permission sets can be created and managed in Setup > Manage Users > Permission Sets.
